  • A New Age Album that is an unusual combination of cover songs and original material each uniquely infused with the vibrational frequencies of crystal alchemy singing bowls, meditation, vocals and propelled by the rhythm of the Grammy Award Winning pianist and composer Laurence Hobgood and his Trio. Binaural Beats and classic songs? Intriguing?

How does it feel to hear the vibrational emanations of Lapis Lazuli, Frankincense, Apophyllite and Pink Tourmaline amplified and woven into music? Rose Quartz, Morganite, Emerald and Rhodochrosite, powerful gemstones of the heart creating a spacious and revealing musical tapestry? And what about a Lemurian Seed Crystal bowl? And a Grandmother bowl? What do these alchemies really do to balance our body chemistry and how does this crystalline music transform us at the very cellular level?

“This spectacular new recording will change the way you think about music. It begins as the intriguing partnership of two world class musicians in separate domains — Jeralyn in the world of classical and Broadway singing, and Laurence in the world of jazz. In their first-ever collaboration, there is a merging of intention and musical spirit that goes beyond musical style. The unification is uplifted by the quartz crystal alchemy bowls that Jeralyn plays like a virtuoso, infusing the music throughout, and pairing fully arranged, known songs with purely meditative/vibrational sections.

I was struck by the uncommon purity to the tones that Jeralyn produces with her crystal bowls and voice, and in the tones Laurence Hobgood liberates from the piano.

The power of music to heal the mind, body, and spirit goes back 20,000 years to when ancient shamans used music to treat a wide range of ailments, from depression, to wounds, and illnesses. Modern science has taught us that music is medicine, and this album is perhaps the finest and highest demonstration of that. Listen. Become uplifted. Heal. And above all, enjoy.”

  • After connecting with Jeralyn and hearing about the bowls I was intrigued to “meet” them; we scheduled a couple days in L.A. dedicated solely to this purpose.

The bowls embody a pure manifestation of sound; it’s essential to understand that their being pitched (i.e. resonating at specific tonal frequencies) is what makes it possible to integrate them with musical instruments. First I needed an “inventory” of all the available pitches at 440 Hz, the standard for musical instrument tuning. (It’s worth noting that many bowls are tuned at 432 Hz — without getting too detailed let’s just say that 432 Hz results in a different quality of tonal sound; on a practical level it won’t be in tune with conventional musical instruments, in this case piano and acoustic bass.)

It turned out that Jeralyn’s bowl collection had a little over two chromatic octaves — with some doubles, which was very promising.

Next I needed to learn how the bowls’ sound generation worked and Jeralyn “educated” me; “swirling” results in a slowly unfolding, swelling and eddying sonority, “tapping” produces more immediately resonant tones — not quite what I’d call percussive but something like that. Being able to utilize and combine both of these techniques led to different approaches for integrating the bowls with the arrangements — it came down to three main, related factors: 1) selecting the correct harmonies in relation to the chord structures of any given moment, 2) gauging the ”personality” of each individual bowl — they vary in character more than you might expect, and 3) experimenting with the various, inevitable rhythmic issues implicit in integrating the bowls’ sonic nature(s) with regularly pulsed/tempoed music.

This project was a fascinating experience and I’m very pleased with the results — I feel that we’ve crafted something that’s truly unique.

  • The creation of the album Vibrance was something I envisioned as a combination of enjoyment and meditation, a deep dive for us into effectively combining well known songs and original material influenced by quantum science with the transcendent power of the vibrations and frequencies of the crystal alchemy singing bowls. My intention was to allow the music to be an expansive template for a meditative experience that would take the listener to a place of transformation and healing, relaxation and regeneration. Especially for those who have a hard time quieting their thinking mind and doing any sort of traditional meditation. The feedback from two prerelease concerts was inspiring. Wishing you inspiration, stillness that creates strength and clarity, joy and peace.
